Congress leader V.M. Sudheeran has said that the lynching of a tribal youth at Attappady last Thursday indicated the failure to curb the exploitation of tribespeople in the State.

In a Facebook post, he said the shocking incident was proof that the atrocities against tribal communities were not a thing of the past. The incident should provide an impetus for the government and society to put an end to this injustice.

Pointing out that the funds allocated for tribal welfare were not reaching the needy, he said it indicated a grave administrative and political failure. Mr. Sudheeran urged the government to adopt the family of Madhu, the tribal who was beaten to death. He also demanded enhancement of the compensation announced by the government for the family.
