Four, including three school students, die in road mishap

Four people, including three school students, were killed when a private bus rammed into a bus shelter at Kuppam near Taliparamba here on Wednesday morning.

The police said that the incident occurred at around 9 a.m. when the bus on its way from Payyannur to Taliparamba lost control and rammed into the bus shelter where the four were waiting for bus. The deceased have been identified as Riswana, Kunhamina and Khadija, all aged 14 and students of the Seethi Sahib Higher Secondary School at Taliparamba, one Khader reportedly hailing from Kozhikode.

Immediately after the accident, irate local people destroyed the bus. The crew of the bus fled from the spot after the mishap. According to eyewitnesses, the speeding bus hit the rear side of another private bus parked nearby before loosing control and crashed into the shelter. Police personnel led by District Superintendent of Police K.P. Philip are camping in the area. The bodies were taken to a private hospital at Taliparamba.
