Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala celebrated its Founder’s Day on Friday.
Delivering the P.S. Varier Commemorative Lecture, Swami Chidanandapuri from Advaitasramam, Kolathur, Kozhikode, said that the concept of dharma was the biggest contribution of India to the world. “We have a “collective responsibility to uphold that legacy,” he said.
The Swami said the world was dazed at the bloodbath taking place in different countries in the name of religion. “We have a special responsibility to glorify, promote and uphold the concept of dharma.” People from across the world were looking up to India for knowledge and enlightenment. “When it comes to knowledge, there is no difference between people,” he said, adding that knowledge was the brightest light in which India could revel.
M.P. Veerendrakumar, former MP, inaugurated the celebrations. Novelist C. Radhakrishnan presided over the function.
Writer K.P. Ramanunni, delivering a memorial speech, compared the legacy of P.S. Varier to that of Mahatma Gandhi.
Poet Vattakulam Shankunni presented his latest verse on Vaidyaratnam P.S. Varier.
Arya Vaidya Sala Managing Trustee P.K. Warrier gave away the Founder’s Day awards of excellence to Ayurveda students.
Anagha Shivanandan won the Centenary Award 2014. Athira Gopinathan, E.N. Ajay and E. Arathi won the A.V.S. Chandramani Anjaria Scholarships.
Anila and Gayathri Ramesh won the Sardar Jagjit Sigh Chaddah and Sardarni Manmohan Kaur Chaddah Endowment Prizes.
Shriram P.V. won the Bhagavandas and Krishna Devi Endowment Prize.
Arya Vaidya Sala additional chief physician P. Madhavan Kutty proposed a vote of thanks.
