Foundation laid for State’s second solar fish drying unit

Foundation stone laid

Minister for Fisheries, Ports and Excise K. Babu on Friday laid the foundation for the State’s second solar-powered fish drying unit at Puthan Kadappuram, near here, under the State government’s Integrated Coastal Area Development Programme being implemented by the Kerala State Coastal Area Development Corporation (KSCADC). The KSCADC has earmarked a total of Rs. 1.23 crore for setting up two solar fish drying units in the State. The construction of a drying unit at Poovar in Thiruvananthapuram has been completed.

The solar fish drying unit at Puthan Kadappuram, being built at a cost of Rs. 63 lakh, will have a processing room for cutting and cleaning the fish, a dryer room and a packaging facility within an area spread over 139.05 sq.m.
