Minister for Culture K.C. Joseph will inaugurate the Palakkad Mani Iyer memorial and the second centre of the Kerala Folklore Academy at Kalpathy here at 10.30 a.m. on Friday.

The memorial building, to house the regional centre of the folklore academy, had been built by the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) close to the ancestral house of the Mridangam maestro Palakkad T.S. Mani Iyer.

The academy will set up a study centre and museum of temple arts and percussion instruments, academy Chairman B. Mohammed Ahamed said.

“Kerala has a rich heritage of folk arts, among them the impact of temple and religion is indigenous. The major temple arts of the State fall in the folklore arts classification. But there is no study centre in the State. The academy will set up a study centre for temple arts and percussion instruments at the Palakkad Mani Iyer memorial building,” Academy Secretary M. Pradeep Kumar said.

Shafi Parambil, MLA, will preside over the inaugural function. M.B. Rajesh, MP, will be the chief guest.
