Doctors and other staff of the Ernakulam General Hospital, except those on casualty duty, went on a strike from early morning on Thursday, after relatives of a patient attacked two duty doctors and a nursing assistant on Wednesday night.

The strike was called off by 10.30 a.m. after the RDO, District Medical Officer and senior police officials held talks with the representatives of the agitators and assured them security. The attack took place in the casualty wing at 8.30 p.m. on Wednesday, over admitting a patient who needed ventilator support. The police have arrested two people on the charge of attacking the doctors and employees.
