A five-year-old girl from Alappuzha, who recently laid a claim to being the world’s youngest Karate black belt holder, is now gearing up to go global with her skills.
Varsha Vinod, a Class One student of the Taxila English Medium School, Purakad near here, was just one and a half years old when her father, Vinod, a Karate instructor, introduced her to the initial lessons of Karate. By the age of four, Varsha gained enough expertise to impress the instructors at the Ko-In-Chi Academy’s Alappuzha unit, who then took her under their wings. Under the guidance of V.Z. Sebastian, the chief instructor at the academy here, she began aiming at the black belt and by this May, she was finally awarded the coveted belt.
The child’s achievement, which included proficiency in using the Chinese Dragon Stick and the ‘Nunchaku’ apart from the other regular skills required to master the martial art, garnered space in columns of England-based publications including The Sun and The Mirror, her father Vinod said at a press conference here on Saturday.
Now, London-based public relations firm Taylor Herring Limited has invited Varsha and her father for a performance in London, a felicitation and even a press conference involving international media, Mr. Vinod said.
Varsha, whose mother Sunitha is a teacher, said she would also be aiming for a page of her own in the Guinness Book of World Records through the trip. She will fly with Mr. Vinod to London on September 28.
