A fisherman on board a fibre boat drowned at rough sea while returning to the shore after two days of fishing here on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as P. Suresh (48) from Ernakulam. The body was recovered and kept at the Government Hospital mortuary.

According to Fisheries Department officials, Suresh and two other fishermen left for fishing two days ago in the fibre boat from the Mappila Bay fishing harbor area. Though they were scheduled to come back on November 28, they cut short their fishing activity as the sea turned rough on Sunday. Suresh fell off the boat while cruising back in choppy waters and went missing at around 12 noon on Sunday. The two others, identified as Joy and Valsan, managed to sail back to the shore. The body of the missing fisherman was washed ashore at around 3 p.m.

The Fisheries officials said that fishermen in the district were warned against going for fishing at sea for the next three days in view of the rough sea.
