Kerala High Court Judge C.K. Abdul Rahim inaugurating the first gram nyayalaya in Kottayam district on Saturday.

The first gram nyayalaya in the district was inaugurated at Pallickathode for Pampady block panchayat on Saturday. This is one among the 30 gram nyayalayas proposed by the government.

Inaugurating the gram nyayalaya, Justice C.K. Abdul Rahim of the Kerala High Court said the Indian legal system had moved a long way in dispensing justice to the citizens, firmly holding itself to the three basic principles of equality, justice, and freedom embedded in the Constitution.

“For the past seven decades, the nation has been moving ahead in the direction of devolution of power. While decentralisation has been realised in many other spheres, the journey began in the justice dispensation system only with the passing of the Gram Nyayalya Act, 2008. These institutions are the logical next step in the decentralisation effort, which will provide access to justice to citizens at the grassroots level,” Justice Rahim said.

The first Nyayadhikari is Prasoon Mohan, who has taken over with the rank of First Class Judicial Magistrate.
