Kerala Minister for Panchayats and Social Welfare M.K. Muneer inaugurated the first community kitchen scheme of the State government at the Nallasingha hamlet in Sholayur grama panchayat in Attappady on Monday.
The kitchen will provide one full meal each day to children below six years, adolescents, pregnant women, and those above 60 years of age, Dr. Muneer said after the inaugural function.
This was an attempt to deal with starvation and malnutrition in the tribal hamlets of Attappady. The scheme would be started in all the 172 Anganwadis in Attappady, Dr. Muneer said.
The government would fund the scheme for six months, he said calling upon civic-minded citizens to take over the scheme after that. The scheme would solve the problem of malnutrition among tribespeople in Attappady in six months to one year, the Minister said.
The Minister also gave away ‘Onapudava’ to 25 tribal children.
