First batch completes training in machine aided coconut palm climbing

“Friends of Coconut tree”, the joint training venture by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) and Coconut Development Board, Kochi, completed their six-day long residential course on machine aided coconut palm climbing at KVK, attached to the Central Plantation Crops and Research Institute (CPCRI) in Kasaragod on Saturday.

The 19 trainees, including eight women, formed the first batch of the year.

Apart from machine aided climbing, “Friends of Coconut tree” deals with other topics like Scientific Management practices of coconut palm, artificial pollination, plant protection aspects, and value addition of coconut.

Each trainee was given a coconut climbing machine free of cost along with one year insurance coverage. The Kendra plans to train around 200 youth this year in 10 batches, each comprising of 20 members, a KVK release here said.
