Firm on opposition to airport project: BJP

April 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - ALAPPUZHA:

A day after the Centre accorded sanction for Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) for the proposed Aranmula airport, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State leadership has said it will not allow the project to be implemented. Speaking to the media here on Saturday, State vice president M.T. Ramesh said the party remained firm on its political decision against the project.

“The party has always stood by the people of Aranmula and the Central government will never adopt any decision that goes against their sentiments. No airport will come up at Aranmula. Apprehensions on this count are unnecessary. It is purely on technical grounds that the government has provided permission for the study. The decision has been made on the basis of an application submitted by the KGS group with the support of the State government,” he said.

He accused the KGS group of attempting to use influence for implementing the project. “At the initial stages, the company had managed to rope in the services of several officials from village officers to the undersecretary in the Defence Ministry, he said.
