Four units of fire force from Kayamkulam and Mavelikkara battled for nearly two hours to extinguish a fire that engulfed a machine in the Alappuzha Cooperative Spinning Mills located at Kareelakulangara near Kayamkulam in the district this afternoon.

The general manager of The Mills, R.Jaikrishnan Nair told The Hindu that the fire that started at around 11.45 a.m. resulted in stopping of production and the production loss was pegged between Rs 50,000 and Rs.1 lakh. The short circuit within the machine is suspected to be the cause of fire.
