: The fire that broke out at Lalur trenching ground four days ago has been continuing even on Saturday.
Fires at the spot are frequent and the resulting thick smoke accompanied with a pungent smell has made life difficult for the locals. The elderly and children are most affected.
According to Lalur Malineekarana Virudha Samara Samithy leader T.K. Vasu, it was the tenth such incident in the season.
The Samara Samithy complained that the authorities failed to implement the 10-point suggestions given by the former district judge M.P. Bhadran to clear the accumulated waste from the Lalur trenching ground. The meeting of the implementing committee of the Lalur Model Project for Solid Waste Management had decided to filter the accumulated waste and burn the accumulated plastic at a temporary incinerator at the trenching ground itself. The filtered soil can be used for agriculture purpose. Samara Samithy alleged that Mayor Rajan Pallan was taking an irresponsible stand in the issue.
“He is not even bothered to attend the meetings convened to discuss the issue. He is neglecting gravity of the situation. He actually making a mockery of the problems of the Lalur residents,” Mr. Vasu said.
