The Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) has warned that Malayalam movies will not be released from the second week of May in protest against the move by the Kerala Film Exhibitors' Federation not to screen Mr. Fraud directed by B. Unnikrishnan.
Emergency meeting
An emergency meeting of the FEFKA here on Monday rejected the allegation by Liberty Basheer, president of the exhibitors’ federation, that Mr. Unnikrishnan was behind the decision taken by the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes and the FEFKA not to attend the inauguration of the exhibitors’ headquarters building here. Mr. Unnikrishnan is the general secretary of the FEFKA.
The meeting chaired by Sibi Malayil, FEFKA president, pointed out that Mr. Basheer had no right to stall the screening of Mr. Fraud, slated for release on May 8. The FEFKA would hold discussions with the associations of producers and distributors on Tuesday seeking their cooperation in the move to shut down work in Malayalam film industry. Mr. Malayil accused Mr. Basheer of acting like a fascist.
However, Mr. Basheer said the FEFKA had no power to stall the release of new movies in Malayalam. He said it was up to the producers to decide whether films should be released or not.
