The feast of St. Alphonsa will get under way at Bharananganam on Tuesday. According to organisers, the feast will be held in an atmosphere of piety, without fanfare.

The 10 day-feast will witness 13 metropolitans and 111 priests celebrating the Mass.

The feast will formally begin with the hoisting of the flag by Bishop Joseph Kallarangatt, head of the Pala diocese of Syro Malabar Church on July 19.

This will be followed by the celebration of the Mass by Jacob Muricken, Auxiliary Bishop of Pala, who will also deliver the benedictory address.

Celebration of the mass

The high point of the feast is the celebration of the mass by Cardinal Mar George Alencherry, the Major Archbishop of the Syro Malabar Church on July 28, her 70th death anniversary.
