Feast for 50,000 on Janmashtami day

The annual mega feast, Ashtami Rohini Vallasadya, will be held on the Sree Parthasarathy Temple premises on Saturday. The Palliyoda Seva Sanghom and the Travancore Devaswom Board have made arrangements for the smooth conduct of the mass feast to be held after the mid-day rituals, Utchapuja, at the temple on Saturday. PSS leaders K.G. Sasidharan Pillai and P.R. Radhakrishnan said feast would be served to not less than 50,000 people on the Sree Krishna Janmashtami day.

TDB president M.P. Govindan Nair will formally inaugurate the feast by serving rice and other dishes on a plantain leaf kept at the Aanakkottil immediately after the Utchapuja. Director General of Police T.P. Senkumar will preside over the function. Subhash Vasu, P.K. Kumaran, TDB members; Ravikumar, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, and C.P. Rama Raja Prasad, Devaswom Commissioner, will also attend the function.

Preparation begins

The preparation of various dishes for the vallasadya began at the temple kitchen on Thursday forenoon. A total of 3,510 kg rice will be cooked for serving the vallasadya. As many as 300 workers under the leadership of Vijayan Nadamangalathu are preparing the feast. Crew of 51 snakeboats in and around Aranmula will take part in the annual event, besides scores of devotees.
