Father, son die as ambulance, lorry collide

A man, who was being taken to a hospital in an ambulance, and his son were killed, and two others were seriously injured when the vehicle collided with a lorry in the city on Thursday.

The deceased were Thaiparambil Raveendran, 58, of Guruvayur, a traditional medical practitioner, and his son Harish, an Ayurveda doctor. Raveendran was first taken to a private hospital in Guruvayur on Wednesday night following chest pain. He was then referred to a hospital in Thrissur after being administered first aid. The ambulance they were travelling in collided with a lorry at Shankarayyar Junction in the city. Though all the injured were rushed to a hospital, the lives of Raveendran and Harish could not be saved.

Raveendran’s wife Sunitha, 55, and ambulance driver Biju, 32, who were seriously injured in the accident, are undergoing treatment in the hospital.
