The Desheeya Karshaka Samajam has urged the government to raise the production bonus of paddy to Rs.1,000 an acre as the cost of production has gone up many times in the last three decades.
In a statement here on Wednesday, Samajam general secretary Muthalamthode Mani said farmers were given a production bonus of just Rs.140 an acre which was fixed three decades back.
It said the government should consider this and hike the production bonus to Rs.1,000 an acre for paddy cultivation. The Samajam also demanded pension scheme for farmers engaged in various types of cultivation.
