The body of a farmer was found hanging from a tree near his rented house at Kottiyur here on Tuesday morning. He was suspected to have committed suicide.
The deceased has been identified as P. Jose (56) of Palchuram near Kottiyur under the Kelakam police station limits. A plantain cultivator, Jose was reportedly in serious financial trouble due to crop loss. His body was found hanging on the tree near his rented house where he moved with his family a few months ago. The police said that he had been reportedly burdened with huge bank loan liability due to fall in crop prices and crop destruction caused by wild elephants.
He is survived by wife and three children.
