Over 100 people who had excelled in water sports and boat races were honoured at a function organised by the Kerala Rowing and Paddling Boat Club Association here on Saturday.
The association has decided to form a foundation to perpetuate the memory of 11 stalwarts in the boat race events held in the past.
More than 90 persons who participated in international boat races held at Singapore and Thailand two decades ago were felicitated at the meet. Over 20 women who had participated in kayaking and canoeing competitions at national and international sports meets were also honoured.
Panel to be formed
An executive committee will be constituted soon to form the foundation in memory of 11 persons who had made a mark in boat races in Kuttanad and other places.
The descendents of the 11 individuals would be members of the committee.
The name of the foundation will be decided at the meeting of the committee, the association representatives said. The association also intends to extend charity work. A sum of Rs.50,000 will be set apart for the work. Thomas Chandy, MLA, District Collector R.Girija were among the dignitaries present at the meeting.
