Experts, environmentalists to meet at Poovathoor tomorrow

The Pampa Parirakshana Samiti, will organise a day-long meeting of environmentalists at the Enviornmental Research Centre at Poovathoor near Aranmula on the banks of river Pampa on Tuesday.

In a statement issued here on Monday, PPS general secretary, N.K.Sukumaran Nair, said the meeting would discuss the environmental issues facing various rivers in the State.

Experts in the field of environment conservation and river protection and environmentalists from different parts of the State will participate in the day-long meet, says Mr. Nair.

Dr. K.M.Nair, former director of Centre for Earth Science Studies, Thiruvananthapuram, will inaugurate the meet at 10 am on Tuesday.

Dr. Jose Parakkadavil, Gandhain and former principal of Thuruthicaud BAM College, Vaikom Madhu, veteran journalist, C.A.Vijayachandran of Kerala River Protection Council, Dr. N.Unnikrishnan of Kottayam Nature Society, Dr. D.Padmalal, scientist attached to CESS, N.Sreekumar of Greens Thiruvananthapuram, Dr. K.N.P.Kurup, Prof. T.N.Ramakrishna Kurup, Simon Kaippallil, environmenalists, will also address the meet.

Mr. Nair said the meeting would discuss the State Government’s proposed Mineral Policy, river rejuvenation strategies and the problems facing the State’s construction sector.
