Artist Sadhu Aliyur turns the normal into unfamiliar with watercolour as he captures nature in its varied scenes and settings.

His watercolour paintings are on display at the Lalithakala Akademi art gallery here from Thursday. It will be held till March 11.

The paintings on display are expressive of the artist’s sense of observation of details and his creative skills to capture them in all their richness. Most of the natural scenes that he brought to life on canvas are not unfamiliar. His brushstrokes make them extraordinary. The skies, slanting trees, the sea and the dwellings come alive on his canvas.

“For the last many years I have been specialising in watercolour and experimenting with the fundamentals of watercolour paintings,” says Mr. Aliyur.

Though most of his paintings are nature-related and come under the genre of landscape painting, he always tries to introduce innovation in his creative expression.

As many as 38 paintings are on display at the exhibition here. This is his 32nd solo show in different parts of the country. The 52-year-old artist, who hails from Aliyur near Mahe, has won various awards including Kottarathil Shankunny Smaraka Samithi State award in 1983 and Kerala Lalithakala Akademi Vijaya Raghavan Endowment Gold Medal in 2012.
