Exhibition of art works

October 27, 2010 08:15 pm | Updated 08:15 pm IST - Kozhikode:

An exhibition of art works by people trained under the Home Art programme of the State Nirmithi Kendra, Kozhikode centre, began at the centre on Wednesday.

As many as 15 women have completed a 45-day course in fabric painting, glass painting and pot designing. This is the first time that the centre is organising any course for unemployed women.

Radhika Ranjith, trainer, said when the course began, most of these women had no drawing skills and were holding a brush for the first time. From there, they had gone on to design saris, dress materials, pots and wall hangings. The course would earn them self-employment opportunities, Ms. Ranjith said.

The course is free for 20 persons who register first. They will also get a daily stipend of Rs.150. The next batch of the course will start soon.
