Cherthala municipal chairperson Jayalakshmi Anilkumar said that it was planning to install e-toilets in the municipality.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, the municipal chairperson said that three e-toilets with a total estimate of Rs 15.75 lakh will be installed in three locations in the municipality.
She later told The Hindu that one of the toilet was funded under the municipality’s budget and two others were expected to be funded under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) of MP and Union Minister of State for Power, K.C. Venugopal. The e- toilets were expected to be ready in two months. KELTRON has been entrusted with the setting up of these toilets, she said.
Women Day celebrations
Earlier, addressing the press conference, Ms. Jayakumar said that Kudumbashree-Neighbourhood Groups in the municipality and Kinder Women’s Hospital and Fertility Centre (KWHFC) will jointly celebrate International Women’s Day at Sree Narayana Memorial Government Boys HSS, Chertala on March 8. A free health camp for women has also been organised to mark the occasion.
The celebrations will begin with a procession attended by women belonging to Kudumbashree-neighbourhood groups. Former Minister, K.R. Gouriamma will inaugurate the public meeting that follows.
Municipality vice chairman, K.J. Sunny will release the book “Women and health” on the occasion.
The free health camp for women will be organised by the KWHFC under the Singapore-based Kinder Group. It will have free scanning facilities and facilities for taking blood tests, A. Praveen Kumar, MD of KWHFC said at the press conference.
