Students of Government College, Malappuram, celebrated the finale of the holy month of Ramzan on Wednesday by organising different programmes under various banners.

While the college union led by the Students Federation of India (SFI) organised a henna designing competition and a ‘pathiri- making competition, the Muslim Students Federation (MSF) held competitions adding ethnic charm to the 28th day of Ramzan.

The entire campus was in a jubilant mood as the college closed for Id-ul-Fitr celebrations on Wednesday.

The students of the chemistry department bagged the first prize in henna designing and pathiri-making events.

While the Malayalam department won the second prize in henna designing, the commerce department got the second prize in pathiri-making.

The students union also organised a roadshow heralding the FIFA World Cup being held in Russia.

The MSF named its celebrations ‘Guldastha 2K18’, symbolically welcoming the festival of Id with a bouquet of flowers.

When the participants of the henna-making competition brought leaves of mignonette tree from home and prepared the henna concoction using a grindstone, the event took the campus to nostalgic days.

Culinary skills

The students displayed their culinary skills in samoosa-making competition too. “Our aim was to evoke the much-needed ethnicity in the competition. That is why we introduced henna grinding in a traditional way and samoosa making,” said Shamseer, one of the organisers.
