The 30th anniversary of Peerumade Estate Workers' Union and the 40th anniversary of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) will be held at Vandiperiyar from May 29 to 31.
Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate a public meeting to be held as part of the valedictory function.
A trade union meet will be inaugurated on May 29 by CITU State president E. Balanandan. CITU secretary J. Mercykutty, INTUC State working president P.K. Gopalan, AITUC State general secretary Kanam Rajendran and BMS State secretary K.K. Vijayakumar will attend the meeting.
Thousands of estate workers from Peerumade area would participate in a rally to be held on the final day, the organisers said. CITU president A.K. Padmanabhan, Labour Minister P.K. Gurudasan and All-India Plantation Workers Federation general secretary Lalaji Babu will address the public at the valedictory function.
