Eraviperoor, the first grama panchayat in the whole country to receive the National Award for Public Administration, has also become the first panchayat in the State to get ISO-9001 certification for its Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Othera.

According to panchayat president N. Rajeev, a lawyer-turned-politician, the local body has taken various measures to improve the functioning of the PHC besides ensuring quality rural healthcare to all.

He said the PHC had received the government’s quality control certification, earlier.

The clinical laboratory has been modernised with automatic haematology analyzer.

Computerisation of the out-patient wing and modernisation of the pharmacy were the other important things in the development of the PHC, he said.

Yoga

Facility for Ayurveda and Homoeo treatment as well as yoga therapy at the redesigned PHC complex was another milestone in the healthcare development, he said.

A yoga training centre has also been set up at the PHC premises as part of the Health for All programme of the panchayat.

This is not the first time Eraviperoor is topping the chart in the field of public health.

The local body had launched a free palliative care scheme for the poor that fetched it the State government’s Health Award and Pain and Palliative Care Award in 2014-15.

Mr Rajeev said the panchayat had spent Rs.30 lakh for renovating the PHC complex and improving its infrastructure.

e-governance

The panchatyat has given stress on e-governance at the grassroots level, making local self-governance citizen-centric, aimed at an efficient, responsive, cost-effective, and result-oriented mechanism which would help a faster pace of rural development, Mr Rajeev said.

The ISO certified panchayat’s public information are being passed over to the people by SMS alerts.

Honorarium

The honorarium as well as salary of the staff are being paid as electronic money directly to their bank accounts on the first working day of every month.

The entire office records have been digitised and the panchayat had launched its one-minute certificate scheme two years ago.

The Horticulture Department, too, has selected Eraviperoor a Model Hi-tech Green Village’ in recognition of the local body’s green initiatives.
