Enquiry ordered into boat mishap

The government has ordered an enquiry into the boat mishap that claimed the lives of eight students in Malappuram district on Wednesday.

The Office of the Chief Minister said in an official release that the Malappuram collector had been asked to conduct an enquiry and submit report to the government.

Expressing his grief over the accident, Chief Minister V. S. Achuthanandan said that police and the fire service personnel were carrying out the relief operations. Emergency medical assistance had also been rushed to the spot near Areacode. Education Minister M. A. Baby, Health Minister P. K. Sreemathi and Minister for Local Self Government Paloli Mohamedkutty had left for Areacode, the release said.
