Endosulfan: high-level team visits Nanjanpara

Senior district officials led by District Collector P. S. Mohammed Sagir on Friday visited Nanjanpara locality amid reports that barrels of the banned endosulfan pesticide were either buried or drained in the locality.

The team inspected the stream where barrels containing the pesticide were suspected to have been concealed or drained and gathered information from the residents in the locality.

The Collector’s visit came after a meeting of the Endosulfan Relief and Remediation Cell chaired by Agriculture Minister P. Mohanan here on May 9 decided to send a high-level delegation to the spot.

The Collector was accompanied by Deputy Collector and in-charge of the cell P.K. Sudheer Baby, district coordinator of the national handicapped rehabilitation project S. Naseem, District Medical Officer P. Gopinath, Deputy DMO M.C. Vimalraj, NRHM district programme coordinator Mohammed Asheel, and Karadukka grama panchayat president Sujatha R. Tantri, an official release said here.
