Electioneering took a boisterous turn as supporters of rival candidates turned up in large numbers for shows of zeal on Saturday, the last day of campaigning for the Assembly polls.
Reports say that each of the 11 constituencies in the district saw final hour campaign reaching a feverish pitch with supporters of rival political parties and supporters of rival candidates performing roadshows to woo voters. The electioneering turned noisy in the last hour of the campaign when party workers of different hues reached the designated spots in town centres of the constituencies in vehicles, waving their party flags and shouting slogans in support of their candidates.
Workers of the Left Democratic Front (LDF), United Democratic Front (UDF) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) reached their designated spots in the town for the conclusion of the public election campaign of their respective candidates in the Kannur Assembly constituency. The LDF candidate and Congress (S) leader Kadannappally Ramachandran was taken in a procession by a large number of LDF workers in the town. Their campaign ended at South Bazar here. CPI(M) leaders P.K. Sreemathy and M.V. Jayarajan were among those present. LDF workers turned up in large numbers in vehicles to pep up the campaign of Mr. Kadannappally as it reached its conclusion.
The UDF candidate Satheeshan Pacheni concluded his campaign at the Fort Road here. The UDF campaign also witnessed a large turnout of UDF workers, mostly Congress and Indian Union Muslim League workers, waving flags and beating drums, at the spot. UDF district chairman A.D. Musthafa, IUML leader P. Kunjumuhammad and Kannur Deputy Mayor C. Sameer were among those who addressed the workers.
BJP workers also turned up in large numbers to mark the conclusion of the campaign of BJP candidate K.G. Babu.
Workers of the Welfare Party of India and the Social Democratic Party of India also held the final-hour election campaign procession with their respective candidates C.P. Rahna and Sufira K.P.
