EC drops charges against Kerala CM

The Election Commission of India has dropped the complaint about an alleged violation of Model Code of Conduct for the elections by Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan.

An official announcement on Wednesday said that the Commission had decided to close the issue after considering the details and circumstances of the issue.

The UDF had alleged that Mr. Achuthanandan had tried to influence voters in the Kannur Assembly constituency by promising two-lakh jobs in the IT sector in two years and announcing starting of work on the

IT Parks at Eramath in Kannur district and Cheemeni in Kasaragod district.

By-polls are scheduled to take place in Kannur and two other constituencies in Kerala on November 7.
