The siege laid by the Democratic Youth Federation of India to the Mini Civil Station here has affected the functioning of various Government offices on Thursday forenoon.
As many as 1,000 DYFI workers thronged the town in the forenoon to lay siege to the Mini Civil Station that houses a good number of Government offices as well as courts, protesting against the reported Government move to raise the retirement age of Government employees.
The agitators permitted entry of vehicles carrying judicial officers into the mini civil station complex, employees attached to various Government offices were effectively blocked from entering the compound till the culmination of the siege by 12 pm.
Though the siege began at 7 am, certain employees have managed to reach their offices much before its beginning. However, a majority of the employees could not reach their offices and even functioning of the court too was partially affected in the siege.
The attempt made by the lawyers to enter the civil station too had led to minor push and pull between a group of lawyers and the agitators in the forenoon.
The agitators staged a sit-in on the road, affecting vehicular transport at the Central Junction and on the Thiruvalla-Kumbazha Road in the town for about five hours.
K.S. Sunilkumar, DYFI State treasurer, inaugurated the siege. P.R. PRadeep, DYFI district president, presided over the programme.
