The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) has planned wide-spread protests in the district demanding the resignation of MLAs from Poonjar and Kaduthuruthy.
Speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday, DYFI State secretary T.V. Rajesh demanded the resignation of the former Kerala Congress (J) MLAs who had left the Left Democratic Front (LDF) after having won the Assembly elections with the front support.
Mr. Rajesh elaborated on how the involvement of religious leaders in State politics would disrupt communal harmony. The Kerala Congress (J) had left the LDF not due to any political reasons, but because of pressure from a section of religious leaders, he alleged.
Ever since the CPI(M) took over the Education Department, there were misleading reports from groups who were engaged in 'backseat driving' of the department. The exit of Kerala Congress (J) from the LDF was the culmination of the efforts of these vested interests, Mr. Rajesh alleged.
The intervention of religious leaders in politics was dangerous and such political betrayal and defection should not be encouraged, he said.
As part of the agitation, the DYFI would hold marches on June 15 to Poonjar (represented by P.C. George) and on June 16 to Kaduthuruthy (represented by Mons Joseph). As a prelude to these marches, demonstrations would be held from June 9 to June 12. Electricity Minister A.K. Balan would flag off the demonstration from Changanassery on June 9.
