Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan demanded here on Thursday that the Central government withdraw from its move to lift price control on petroleum products.

The Chief Minister said the Kirit Parikh Committee had recommended hike in price of gas by Rs.100 a cylinder and petrol and diesel by up to Rs.4 a litre. The committee had suggested that pricing of petroleum products be left to the market forces. The recommendations were made as desired by the Central government and in tune with its policies.

Mr. Achuthanandan said the report was a threat to the people who had been hit by price rise.
