It seems like a disaster is waiting to happen near the north overbridge.
Thanks to an unscientific traffic diversion for the Kochi Metro work, a constant threat looms over motorists.
Road widening in front of the Town Hall to find additional space for traffic has left a giant tree with concrete fortification around it bang on the middle of the road.
That the tree stands right at the foot of the north overbridge where vehicles coming from Kaloor descend at considerable speed makes the spot all the more precarious. It could be doubly dangerous when it rains heavily, as visibility will be affected.
Though a traffic cone appears near the tree on and off, it does not always catch the attention of unsuspecting motorists, especially those who are not so familiar with the city.
Motorists, especially two-wheeler riders, applying sudden brake on suddenly noticing the tree is a common sight here. Perhaps, the authorities are waiting for an accident to happen to wake up.
No justice here
The High Court is where people seek justice. But, motorists who take the road in front of the High Court may feel the authorities are doing injustice to them. For one, the road is too narrow for a bustling place in the city. Making matters worse is parking of vehicles on the roadside by lawyers or those frequenting the court. While there is a parking lot near the court premises, the space is either too small to accommodate many vehicles or some simply prefer parking on the roadside.
