A 'docu-fiction' based on the life of Vagbatananda, who was among the prominent figures who accelerated the cultural renaissance of the State, was released on Sunday at the Atmavidya Sanghom he founded at Azhikode here.
The documentary was released by Vagbatananda's disciple Sukumar Azhikode at the sanghom building.
The documentary captures the life of Kunhikannan, who later accepted the name Vagbatananda. His childhood days, his later struggle against the caste system and other retrograde practices among the Hindus, his marriage and involvement in the freedom struggle have been presented in the documentary.
Great moments
The documentary, completed in 33 days, re-enacts great moments in the life of Vagbatananda, including his joint initiative with M. Abdurrahiman Saheb to protect Hindu-Muslim harmony during the Khilafat Movement.
Directed by P.K. Sacheendran, the film also acknowledges the roles of social reformer Brahmananda Shivayogi, Communist leaders P.Krishna Pillai, A.K. Gopalan, A.V. Kunhambu and Congress leader K. Kelappan.
In the documentary, Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan, Dr. Azhikode and Leela Group chairman Capt. Krishnan Nair reminisce about Vagbatananda.
Mr. Sacheendran said that the docu-fiction has been filmed in Kozhikode, Vadakara, Kannur, his native village of Azhikode, Ottappalam, Palakkad and Thiruvananthapuram.
Titled 'Vishwavijay Vagbatananda,' the film has been produced under the banner of Visual Fabric. Filming was done by K.V. Yatheendran. Premkumar has rendered music. Artistes Devanand, Pradeep Thaikandy,Ratheesh Kozhikode, and Sreedharan Perambra are among those who had acted in it.
