Doctor suspended on charges of negligence

The government has suspended Jisle George, professor and head of medicine, Ernakulam Medical College, for alleged negligence in the treatment of Shamna Tasneem, a 19-year old medical college student, who had died while under treatment.

A Government Order sent by mail on Thursday said that he had been suspended under disciplinary action as recommended by the an expert committee that had probed the matter. This is the second time he had been suspended.

The expert team that had probed the medical negligence aspect of the case were Suma T.K., professor of medicine, Alappuzha Medical College; Linette J. Morris, professor of anaesthesia, Thiruvananthapuram Medical College; and Davis Paul, professor of pulmonology, Thrissur Medical College.
