The Kerala Government Medical Officers’ Association (KGMOA) district unit here organised a preventive vaccination camp for doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals in the district in the wake of the reported diphtheria outbreak in Malappuram and Kozhikode. Thiruvalla Sub-Collector Sriram Venkitaraman, who himself is a doctor, inaugurated the vaccination drive at a function held at the General Hospital here on Thursday. District Medical Officer (DMO) Gracy Ithaq presided over the function.

Addressing the function, Ashish Mohankumar, KGMOA district secretary and RMO, said doctors undergoing vaccination would give a message instilling confidence among the general public. Dr. Mohankumar said as many as 27 children in the district have been identified as either unimmunised or partially immunised making them vulnerable to infection.

The DMO herself was administered with the preventive vaccine at the camp. The Reproductive and Child Health officer, Nandini C.S; Deputy DMO, Anithakumari, and all doctors, nurses and paramedical staff were also administered with the vaccine on Thursday.

The drive would continue in the coming days and would be held at all government hospitals in the district, Dr. Mohankumar said.
