Devaswom postings: Dheevara Sabha demands special recruitment board

February 21, 2012 05:22 pm | Updated 08:25 pm IST - ALAPPUZHA

Akhila Kerala Dheevara Sabha general secretary, V. Dinakaran has demanded that Government form a special recruitment board by ensuring adequate representations to all sections of Hindu community.

Addressing a press conference in Alappuzha on Tuesday, Mr. Dinakaran said if the NSS demand for earmarking remaining 17 per cent out of the 50 per cent reservation for Hindus to financially-backward candidates belonging to forward communities was accepted, it will be against the reservation norms as per the Supreme Court’s verdict. If the Government decides to keep non-Hindus out of the Devaswom Board appointments, then it would be ideal if the SC-ST and backward classes, who were eligible for 33 per cent reservation as of now, be given the remaining 17 per cent reservation, thus taking the total reservation to 50 per cent for these sections of Hindus alone.

(It may be recalled that the Government had proposed an exclusive recruitment board for appointments to Devaswom Boards.)

He pointed out that the previous Government had sent the appointments of administrative cadre in devaswom boards alone to the PSC. A majority of employees including priests did not come under the reservation norms, as their appointments were not made by the PSC.

Hence, all the employees should be brought under the new recruitment board, he demanded. He also demanded that not only the forward communities but also SC-ST and backward classes be given adequate representation in the new Board.

A State-level meeting of organizations belonging to SC-ST and backward classes will be held here on February 23 to discuss the issues including whether the appointments in Devaswom Boards be entrusted with PSC or Special Recruitment Board and to frame future plans, he said.
