Dengue spreads in Thrissur

Six cases this month alone; leptospirosis, jaundice, chikungunya on the rise

As the monsoon has intensified, dengue fever cases have been reported from various parts of the district.

In all, 46 dengue cases have been reported this year. Of this, six were reported in June alone.

The Health Department carried out preventive measures in the Mattathur area last month, as many dengue cases were reported from there.

Now, dengue cases have been reported from the Panjal area. The area is under close monitoring of the Health Department. Sufficient preventive measure have been initiated, according to health officials.

Leptospirosis has already been a threat for the district.

In all, 7,524 people sought treatment for viral fever in the district from January to June. There were 526 cases of jaundice. One person died of the disease.

Two die of leptospirosis

Nine persons were hit by leptospirosis, two of whom died.

So far, 31 chikungunya cases have been reported in the district. Chicken pox was found in 1,237 people.

As rain has intensified, health officials have alerted people to keep their surroundings clean.

Piled-up waste on the city roads has been posing a massive health hazard. Waste is not being removed for more than two weeks in the city. The waste treatment plant has been closed for months.
