Decision on probe into mining permission soon: Chandy

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said on Wednesday that a decision on an enquiry into the allegations surrounding the permission granted by the State government for iron ore mining at Chakkittapara in Kozhikode district would be taken soon.

The Industries Department was processing the file and the Industries Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty was likely to send the file to him on Wednesday itself.

The Chief Minister said that KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala had taken up the matter with him; but had not criticised the government for delay. The controversial order on the issue was cancelled on the third day. While he had received the letter on the subject from Mr. Chennithala, he had not seen the letter from Congress leader V.M. Sudheeran.

There was no lethargic attitude in deciding the matter. The government was only following procedures as per the rules.

(The green signal for mining at Chakkittapara was given by the previous government and there are allegations that a Minister of the LDF government had taken bribes from the mining company for granting the permission.)
