Acting on a lookout circular issued by the Kerala Police, the Delhi Police have arrested an NRI accused of issuing a death threat to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan through social media.

Officials said S.N. Krishnan Nair, a native of Thrikkariyur, near Kothamangalam, was taken into custody on his landing at the Delhi international airport on Monday evening from Abu Dhabi.

He was arrested and presented before a magistrate in Delhi, who remanded him in judicial custody.

A team from the Kochi City police reached Delhi on Tuesday to get him into custody. He will be taken to Kochi on obtaining a transit warrant. Earlier, the Ernakulam Central police registered a case against Mr. Nair.

Besides the Chief Minister, the accused also allegedly abused Power Minister M.M. Mani through Facebook live.

Issues apology

Though he later issued an apology claiming that he was under the influence of alcohol when the video was made, his employer, an Abu Dhabi-based construction firm, fired him.

The accused will be produced in a court here as soon as he is brought to Kochi, officials said.
