A second autopsy was conducted here on Sunday on the body of a man who was found lying dead near the railway tracks at Kayamkulam on Saturday.
The body of 30-year-old Ancil Xavier, a nursing graduate attending training in Chennai, was found lying near the tracks near the Illikkulam level crossing on Saturday morning after he had left for his home at Ernakulam from Chennai on the Chennai-Thiruvananthapuram Express on Friday. Though his relatives had gone to receive him at the Ernakulam North railway station on Saturday, he was not to be seen.
Hours later, they were informed by the Ernakulam police that his body had been found at Kayamkulam. However, relatives allege that the police had conducted the postmortem before they arrived even when mystery shrouded the circumstances in which his body was found. Moreover, his mobile phone was found without the SIM card in it. The injuries on his body too were suspicious, his relatives alleged.
Following a complaint lodged by the relatives with the Kayamkulam police, the police conducted a re-postmortem at the Alappuzha Medical College on Sunday, the report of which is awaited.
According to Alappuzha Superintendent of Police A. Akbar, the police had already registered a case of unnatural death and were investigating. Since the relatives had raised their own doubts, the re-postmortem was conducted and all angles would be probed, including how Ancil reached Kayamkulam when he should have alighted from the train at Ernakulam, he said.
The body was handed over to relatives after the postmortem on Sunday.
