Resignation from corporation, board posts
Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan has said that a decision on the resignation of SNDP leaders from various corporation and board posts will be taken only after knowing the Congress and UDF take on the Alappuzha District Congress Committee’s controversial resolution.
Talking to reporters after a meeting of the SNDP director board here on Monday, Mr. Natesan said that the SNDP members who held such posts had already handed over their resignations to him. If the Congress does not take a favourable decision, they will put in their papers.
Mr. Natesan said the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) should make its stance clear on the resolution of the Alappuzha DCC and the statements of DCC president A.A. Shukoor ‘belittling’ NSS general secretary G. Sukumaran Nair and the SNDP general secretary.
May meet Sonia
The SNDP will complain to Congress president Sonia Gandhi about the resolution and the statements. All the nine SNDP unions in the district will send in 1,000 fax complaints per union to Ms. Gandhi.
‘‘Also, SNDP leaders, after consultation with the NSS, will meet Ms. Gandhi to lodge a complaint,’’ he said.
Mr. Natesan said a defamation suit will be filed against Mr. Shukoor.
‘‘He (Mr. Shukoor) has been hunting down me for the last many years. However, no leaders, including the KPCC president and the UDF [United Democratic Front] convener, have contacted me on the issue,’’ he said.
Mr. Natesan said the SNDP would show its strength in the coming Lok Sabha elections. Replying to a question, he said that he did not think that Mr. Shukoor had made the statements as prompted by the KPCC president.
‘‘But Mr. Chennithala remains silent on the issue. Even Union Ministers Vayalar Ravi and K.C. Venugopal do not speak on the issue,’’ he said.
The meeting demanded that the government allot higher secondary schools and colleges to the SNDP Yogam and the Sree Narayana Trust in places where it did not have such facilities.
