The two-day State camp for members of the women’s sub committee of the District Cooperative Bank Employees Federation-Kerala (DCBEF-K) being held here from January 28, will deliberate on the sweeping reforms planned by the Centre in the banking sector.
Former MP, C.S. Sujatha will inaugurate the camp, which will be attended by around 150 selected woman delegates from the district units of DCBEF-K, affiliated to Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI), here on January 28. Addressing a press conference here on Friday, N. Kanakamma, State Women sub- committee member said the reforms in the banking sector will reflect on the cooperative banking sector also. “The recommendations of the Vaidyanathan committee and related package will adversely affect the cooperative banking sector in the State. The recently bills including 111-th Constitution Amendment Bill and Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill which are in different stages of becoming legislation, contain several conditions that are harmful to the sector. The camp will take into confidence the women, who comprise the majority of the workforce in the district cooperative banks (DCBs), to strengthen the resistance against such ‘anti-people measures' of the Centre,” she said.
Replying to a query, she said that duration of maternity leave in atleast some of the DCBs in the State was lesser than the stipulated six months for State Government employees. The woman sub-committee had taken up such issues and other discriminatory policies against women employees in the past yielding psitive results, she said.
A host of leaders, including E.P. Jayarajan and C. Ravindranath, MLAs, T.N. Seema, MP and others will address the camp.
