The Cybersecurity Centre attached to Amrita University at Amritapuri, near here, will organise a six-day summer camp on cyber security for high school students from April 17.

The camp is being conducted in response to the growing demand for dealing with all forms of cyber threats.

A statement from the university said the forecast was that pervasive use of the Internet would lead to a substantial increase in cybercrimes affecting millions. Building a strong resource pool of experts was the best defence against the impending rise in cybercrimes. Such crimes ranged from sales and investment fraud to electronic terrorism. “It is estimated that India will need around 5 lakh cybersecurity professionals to secure the nation’s cyber assets,” the statement said.

Through the camp, students will be encouraged to explore the world of cybersecurity and become a part of the movement towards a safer cyber world. It will also help students build a basic foundation in cybersecurity concepts and develop a competitive mindset.

Talent pool

The camp aims at identifying and developing appropriate talent among schoolchildren and would focus on imparting knowledge of various aspects of cyber security such as web security, application security, network security, cyber forensics, penetration testing and cryptography.

Admission to the workshop will be on merit basis, through an online entrance examination to be conducted on April 11.

The examination will test a candidate’s basic mathematics, analytical and programming skills. Students from class 8 to 10 from Kerala-based schools can register on https://www.cybergurukulam.in/registration. All selected students will be eligible for full scholarship, which includes accommodation, food, and to and fro travel, the statement said.
