‘Crimes against children to be dealt with sternly’

District Police Chief (SP) K. Sethuraman has said that stringent measures will be taken against those violating the rights of children. Crimes against children are on the rise in the district, he said.

He was inaugurating an orientation workshop for select sub-inspectors as part of preventing crimes, particularly sexual abuse, against children here on Monday.

Mr. Sethuraman said larger awareness campaigns would be launched by involving non-governmental and voluntary organisations.

The workshop was organised by Childline, Janamaithri Centre, and Malabar Special Police unit.

Child Welfare Committee chairman Sharif Ullath; members M. Manikandan, Najmal Babu, P. Haris, and N. Babu; Deputy Superintendent of Police K. Sathisan; Childline coordinators C.P. Salim, and A.K. Mohammed Salih, and probation officers Shiba Mumtaz and Shamir Machingal spoke.
