CPI(M)-BJP clash at Kadachira

Kadachira and nearby areas here were gripped by tension following clashes between Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers at the venue of a local temple festival in the early hours of Tuesday.

The police said that nearly six people were injured in the clashes between rival workers near the Nelliyod Thazhekkavu Temple at Kottur near Kadachira. In a sequel to the clash, the house of a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) functionary at Chalakkunnu here came under attack. The police said that additional police personnel were deployed in the area in view of the tense situation.

The clashes broke out following tension over dispute between workers of the rival parties in connection with the temple festival, the police said. The police registered a case against six people in connection with an attack at Irikkur on Monday night.
