Manjalamkuzhi Ali, LDF-backed MLA from Mankada constituency in Malappuram district, has announced his decision to quit all positions he gained with the help of the CPI(M), including his membership in the Kerala Legislative Assembly.

“Enough is enough,” Mr. Ali said at a crowded press conference held at his house at Panangangara near Perinthalmanna on Monday morning. “I have been hunted by some leaders of the CPI(M) for no reason. I can’t genuflect before such political leaders…, and I can’t forget my commitment to the electorate that voted for me,” he said.

Apart from Assembly membership, Mr. Manjalamkuzhi Ali said he would quit directorship of NORKA, general secretaryship of Pravasi Sanghom, and presidentship of Pravasi Bank.

He said he would continue to serve the people and that people’s representative like him could not end their public career. “I will continue to be with the people of Mankada as an independent worker,” he said.

Mr. Manjalamkuzhi Ali thanked Indian Union Muslim League general secretary P.K. Kunhalikutty for his invitation to the party. But he refused to say whether he would join the Muslim League or would work for the United Democratic Front.
